General Contractor SEO: Get More Remodel and Build Clients
A kitchen remodel or a home addition is one of the biggest checks a homeowner will ever write. Nobody hires the first name they find. They search for weeks, study project photos, read reviews, check your license and collect several bids. General contractor SEO puts your company in front of them early in that search and keeps you there until they pick up the phone.
Why general contractor SEO is different
Most trades sell speed. A plumber wins the burst pipe call by answering first. You sell confidence, and that changes how you win on Google.
Picture a couple planning a major kitchen remodel. They won't call the first listing they see, and they won't forget a sloppy website either.
Buyers search by project, not by trade. They type things like "kitchen remodel" or "basement finishing" into the search box. Far fewer type "general contractor", so you need a page for each project type you want more of.
The sales cycle runs for months. A homeowner might read your site in January, then call you in April. Your pages, photos and reviews have to keep working the whole time she's deciding.
Trust signals carry more weight. Buyers want your license number, proof of insurance, and bonding where your state requires it. They also want to know who your subcontractors are and who pulls the permits.
Profile categories need care. "General contractor" is often the right primary category. A fitting secondary might be "Remodeler" or "Home builder". Add extras only if they match work you really do, because padding the list confuses both Google and the buyer.
What we do for general contractors
Every plan is month-to-month, and you can cancel with 14 days' notice. Each tier fits how remodel clients shop, which is slowly and with a lot of looking around. Here's what you get. See the full list on our pricing page.
Audit: $397 one-time
- A crawl and Core Web Vitals test that checks whether heavy project galleries are slowing your pages
- A review of your profile categories, service areas and project photos
- A side-by-side check against the 3 builders outranking you in the map pack, plus a ranked fix list and a 30-minute call
Local Starter: $797/month
- Two new pages a month, such as a bathroom remodel page or a finished project in a town you want more work in
- Weekly profile posts with progress photos from active jobs, and a reply to every review
- A review request timed for the final walkthrough, while the new space still impresses the client and they're happy to talk about it
Growth: $1,497/month
- Four new pages a month, so additions, garage conversions and new builds get pages next to your remodels
- Link building from suppliers, showrooms, builder associations and community sponsorships, never bought links
- Call tracking and a monthly strategy call, so you learn which project pages bring big jobs and which bring tire kickers
General contractor website design that converts
Your website is your portfolio. A homeowner who's about to spend real money wants to see work like hers before she calls you.
The Ready-to-Launch site at $697 fits a builder focused on one kind of work, like bathroom remodels. You get core pages, a tap-to-call button, one quote form and on-page SEO. Your license number, insurance and years in business go on the home page, where people look first.
The Business site at $1,497 fits most general contractors. It adds a page for each service, a reviews section, a blog and service copy we write or edit. We build the gallery as project pages, each with before-and-after photos, the scope of work, the town and what the homeowner asked for.
Those project pages can rank for searches like "basement finishing" plus a town name, which one crowded gallery page rarely does. They also give a nervous buyer something specific to study at midnight.
Both tiers can also screen leads through the quote form. Ask for project type, a rough budget range, a target start date and whether plans are drawn. That saves you from driving to estimates you'd never win. Read more on our website design page.
Proof: an audit of a site Google struggled to index
This client was a Swiss business with a technical SEO problem, not a contractor. We audited its site in Google Search Console. Of 165 known URLs, 61 weren't indexed, and we traced each one to a cause. We also found two structured data defects in the site's template. We wrote a ranked fix plan, with a way to check each fix. That was an audit and a plan, not a ranking result.
A remodeler's site can break in the same places. Huge project photos slow every page, old project links lead nowhere, and the business schema may still list a past address. For you, we'd start with whatever blocks Google, then speed up the galleries, then build new project pages on a clean base. Read the full Swiss technical SEO case study.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a general contractor SEO company?
Ask to see real deliverables, like how many pages you get each month and what profile work happens each week. A good general contractor SEO company should ask which projects you want more of, since a kitchen remodel and a new build need different pages.
Skip anyone who wants a long contract or promises rankings. Our plans are month-to-month, and you can read every price on the pricing page. It's also fair to ask who actually writes the pages, and whether you'll own them if you leave.
Do I need a general contractor SEO expert, or can I do it myself?
You can do plenty yourself. Fill out your profile, ask every client for a review and post project photos weekly. Our contractor SEO checklist walks through the steps.
A general contractor SEO expert earns the fee on harder work, like site structure, project pages that rank, technical fixes and local links. If you're on job sites all day, that work tends to slip. Ask any expert for a sample report first, and ask who will actually be writing your pages.
How long does SEO take for a general contractor?
Profile and map pack movement often shows in 6 to 12 weeks, once your categories and core pages are fixed. New project pages usually take 3 to 6 months to rank in a competitive metro, and smaller towns tend to move faster.
Your sales cycle is long, so a page that starts ranking this spring may bring a signed job months later. That's why the monthly report tracks calls and form leads, not only rankings. It's also worth asking each new client how they first found you, because the answer often points back to a project page.
Should every finished project get its own page?
Not every one, but your best ones should. Pick projects that match the work you want more of, in the towns you'd like to work in. A few strong project pages beat a long list of thin ones.
Write a short summary for each project, covering what the client wanted, what you built and which problems you solved, plus good photos. Get written permission before showing a home, and leave off the street address.
Do trade association memberships help my SEO?
They can. Groups like the National Association of Home Builders, or a local builders association, often list members in a directory. That listing is a real local link. The logo also works as a trust signal next to your license.
Show only the logos you're entitled to use today. An old badge does more harm than good if a homeowner checks, and the same goes for supplier certifications you no longer hold.
